A move is interstate the moment your household goods cross a state line. San Diego to Chula Vista is intrastate and California rules apply to it. San Diego to Las Vegas is interstate and federal rules apply, even though it is a shorter run than San Diego to Eureka. The distance is not what decides it. The state line is.
That split matters because two different regulators are involved and each one governs a different half of what we do. Household goods moves that stay inside California are governed by the Bureau of Household Goods and Services, which issues the CAL-T permit and sets the rules our California moving laws page covers: written estimates, the not to exceed price, double drive time on hourly work. Household goods moves that leave California fall under federal motor carrier authority, which is why a mover needs a US DOT number to run them at all, and why the paperwork on an interstate move looks different from the paperwork on a local one.

The Process

1. The survey
We walk the home in person or by video call and build the inventory. Access at both ends gets recorded here: stairs, elevators, long carries, and whether the street will take a 26 foot truck. Nothing is charged for this.
2. The flat rate, in writing
You get one number for the whole job, built from the inventory, the distance and the access. It is not hourly and it does not move on move day. No deposit is requested to hold the date.
3. The delivery date, in writing
Calculated from your route: one load day, then 550 miles a day. You get a date on the paperwork, not a range. Your 25 free moving boxes are arranged at this point too.
4. Load day
Our crew pads, wraps, disassembles and loads. Under 200 miles we deliver the same day. Beyond 200 miles the truck stages and the driving days begin the next morning.
5. Transit and delivery
One truck, one crew, no warehouse stop and no transfer. At the far end everything comes inside, boxes go to their labeled rooms, furniture is placed and reassembled. Payment happens on move day and not before.

Interstate moves from us are flat rate. We look at what you are moving and where it is going, we put a number in writing, and that number is locked before we load. It is not an hourly rate and it does not move on move day.
Our hourly pricing exists, but it is local work only: $119 an hour cash for two movers, $169 for three, $219 for four, and $269 for five, with three hour minimums of $357, $507, $657, and $807, plus a flat $75 fuel fee. We take no deposit, ever. There is no online payment, and nothing is charged before move day. If a company asks you to wire money or leave a deposit to hold a truck for a cross country move, weigh that carefully, because booking one does not require it.

Interstate Delivery Timing: 550 Miles
A Day, Same Day Under 200
Interstate delivery here runs on one rule. One loading day, then 550 miles a day of driving starting the next morning. Anything inside 200 miles of San Diego, Los Angeles included, is delivered the same day we load. Past that, take the mileage, divide by 550, round up, and add the loading day.
Las Vegas and Phoenix are next day. Denver and Boise are two days after loading. Dallas, Austin, and Seattle are three. New York is six. We tested that formula against 62 of our published route pages and it fell inside the transit time we already quote on all 62. It holds because your shipment is never waiting on anyone else's freight to fill a trailer.
