What A Real One Looks Like
An actual plan we prepared for a two-bedroom apartment — the same tool, working from the unit’s architectural drawing rather than a sample. Every wall, opening, closet and balcony is where it really is, each piece is drawn at its measured size, and the clearances are called out on the plan: the 36″ bath door, the 21×27 opening, the 46.5″ and 18″ wall runs the furniture has to pass. The pieces along the bottom are the extras tray — what did not fit as drawn. Underneath, the report explains the reasoning piece by piece, down to the balcony wall being nearly all glass, so the 71″ dresser goes on the solid interior wall instead. That is the deliverable. The demo above is not.

Get the unit floor plan
Ask your community’s leasing or move-in coordinator for the dimensioned plan for your specific unit number. Layouts differ between units with the same bedroom count — the unit number matters.

Measure what matters
Beds, dressers, sofas, dining tables, armoires, recliners, wall units. Length and width always; height where a canopy, a tall headboard, or a low ceiling is in play.

We draw the unit to scale
Rebuilt digitally at true scale from the architectural plan — including doorway widths, closet and window walls, and the turns between rooms that catch people out.

Place and test the layout
Your furniture goes onto the plan. Drag it, rotate it, try the other wall. This is the part families end up doing together on a tablet.

The measurement people forget: the doorway and the turn into it. A dresser that fits perfectly against the bedroom wall is no use if it will not pass the hall corner to get there. Width plus the approach angle is what decides it, and it is the single most common surprise on move-in day.

How do I know what furniture to take to assisted living? +
Measure first, decide second — and that order matters, because most people do it backwards and pay to move furniture that has to leave again. Senior apartments are often a third to a quarter of the square footage of the house being left, and the rooms are shaped differently: narrower bedrooms, wall space broken up by closets and windows, doorways and turns that a king bed or a large armoire simply will not pass. The planner shows all of that on the real floor plan before anything is packed.

How far in advance do I need to ask for it? +
The earlier the better, because its whole value is informing decisions you have not made yet — what to keep, what to sell, what to pass to family. Requesting it at the estimate stage, before packing begins, is when it earns the most.
How long does the plan take? +
Plans come back within 48 to 72 hours of us having your measurements and the floor plan for the new place.
Do you need the floor plan from my new community? +
It helps enormously. Most senior communities and apartment complexes will provide a unit floor plan with dimensions on request — ask the leasing or move-in coordinator for the plan for your specific unit number, since layouts vary between units with the same bedroom count. If you cannot get one, tell us and we will discuss options.
Can it tell me what to sell or give away? +
It tells you what will not fit, which is the hard part — the rest is your decision, and it should be. Families find the report useful precisely because it moves the conversation off opinion. “The dresser will not clear the bedroom doorway” is a fact, and it is a much easier thing to hear than “you have too much furniture.”
Does the plan account for a walker or wheelchair? +
Yes — tell us at the outset and clearances are planned into the layout rather than discovered afterwards. Furniture that technically fits can still make a room unusable if it leaves no turning room, and that is a mistake worth catching on a screen instead of on move-in day.

Who moves the furniture once we decide? +
We do, if you want us to — the planner is part of our senior moving service, and the crew arrives already knowing the layout you chose, so furniture goes where you decided rather than where there happens to be room. Whatever is not making the trip can be handled through our removal service or left for family.
