This Route
Phoenix to San Diego (~355 miles, 2–3 days) is the desert hop in reverse, and its seasonality is famous: every summer, a wave of Arizonans decides 115°F is negotiable and the coast is not. Summer loads leave early for heat, monsoon dust storms occasionally pause I-8 for an hour, and the rest of the year the route is as easy as interstate moving gets.
The border stations apply in this direction with more teeth: California’s agricultural inspection checks incoming loads, and citrus and outdoor plants are the usual refusals — ask before load day. On arrival, our crews’ San Diego knowledge takes over: coastal HOAs, beach parking, tower COIs, all pre-arranged.
