Route Notes

ONE STATE, FIVE DIFFERENT MOVES

Texas isn’t one destination — it’s five. El Paso is a ~725-mile I-8/I-10 run, close enough for quick turnarounds and Fort Bliss military moves. San Antonio (~1,275), Austin (~1,300), Dallas–Fort Worth (~1,330–1,360), and Houston (~1,470) are all 3–5 day transits across the long, empty I-10 stretch of West Texas, where fuel stops are planned rather than improvised. The corridor is the single busiest California-to-elsewhere migration route in the country, driven by no state income tax and a housing-cost gap everyone moving already knows by heart.

Destination character matters on arrival day. Austin’s older central neighborhoods have tight streets and aggressive towing; DFW and Houston are sprawl with easy truck access but serious summer heat and, on the Gulf side, hurricane-season scheduling from June through November; San Antonio adds Joint Base San Antonio military volume. Tell us which Texas you’re landing in and the plan gets specific fast.

The Part Nobody Tells You

WE'RE THE CARRIER, NOT A BROKER

Most companies quoting long-distance moves online are brokers — middlemen who take a deposit, then sell your move to the cheapest carrier they can find. That's how prices double at pickup and belongings get held hostage. When Discount Movers quotes your move, the company quoting you is the company that loads, drives, and delivers.

⚠ Booking through a broker

  • Your move is auctioned to an unknown carrier
  • "Estimate" often jumps at pickup
  • Nobody accountable when things go wrong
  • ✓ Booking Discount Movers

  • Our trucks, our background-checked crews
  • Flat rate locked in writing before we load
  • One company accountable, door to door

    TEXAS MOVE QUESTIONS

Which Texas cities do you actually run to?

All of them — El Paso, San Antonio, Austin, DFW, Houston, and everywhere between. El Paso is a 2–3 day short haul; the big metros are 3–5 days, door to door.

Does hurricane season affect a Houston move?

June through November we watch the Gulf forecast and keep delivery windows flexible for coastal Texas. Inland metros like Austin and DFW are unaffected.

Is summer heat a problem in the trailer?

West Texas in July is as hot as the Mojave — same rules: candles, aerosols, and heat-fragile keepsakes ride with you, everything else is packed for it.

Can you handle a Fort Bliss or JBSA military move?

Yes — both are established stops on this corridor. Gate access and scheduling around report dates are familiar territory.
