Who We Are
Discount Movers is a family owned and operated moving company based in San Diego, California. We've been serving San Diego County, Riverside County, and Orange County since our founding on October 20, 1997, with nearly three decades of moving San Diego families, seniors, military personnel, and businesses.
We are not a national franchise. We are not a broker. We are a single, San Diego-based team that shows up on move day with our own trucks, our own trained crew, and our own commitment to doing the job right.

We started in 1997 with a single truck and a simple belief: that people deserve professional moving services at honest prices. Over nearly three decades, that belief hasn't changed, but our capacity has grown significantly.
Today we operate a fleet of 26-foot box trucks, a professional crew of background checked movers, and a service area that spans three counties and long distance routes to Las Vegas, Phoenix, Portland, Nashville, Austin, Denver, Boise, Seattle, Dallas, and Raleigh.

Straightforward Pricing
We charge $119/hr cash, or $129/hr by card, for a 2-person crew with a 3-hour minimum ($357), plus a flat $75 fuel fee. Additional movers are $50/hr each. We give you a written estimate before move day, not a ballpark number that grows on arrival.

How to Verify Our Credentials Yourself
You do not have to take our licensing on faith. The California Bureau of Household Goods and Services keeps a public online license search where you can enter CAL-T #201759 and confirm that the permit is licensed, in active status, in good standing, and insured. The Bureau also posts citations and disciplinary actions against its licensees and encourages consumers to view that section as well, since a license can show as current while still being on probation. A valid permit shows a Carrier Status of Active.
Every California household mover is required to display its Cal-T number on all of its vehicles, so the number on the side of our truck should match the number on our paperwork and the number in the Bureau's search. For the interstate side of the business, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration runs the free SAFER Company Snapshot. Search by US DOT #4372335 or by company name, and the record shows company identification, size, commodity information, and safety data drawn from FMCSA's own systems. There is no account to create and no fee.
What Our California Permit Obligates Us To Do
Holding a CAL-T permit is not just a number on a truck. Under state rules published by the Bureau of Household Goods and Services, a licensed mover must give you a Not to Exceed price for every household move. That figure is the most you can be charged unless you ask for additional services, and any such change must be documented in a written Change Order for Moving Services. The Bureau recommends that you receive the written estimate at least three days before moving day.
The state is also specific about how estimates are produced. An estimate must be in writing and given only after an inspection of the goods to be moved; verbal estimates and estimates given over the internet are illegal under California rules and may not be enforceable. That is why our written estimate is the document that governs your move. If a company will only quote you a number by phone and refuses to put it in writing, that is a warning sign.
A California permit carries insurance and disclosure duties as well. The Bureau requires every household mover to carry cargo insurance of at least $20,000 and to keep it in effect for the life of the permit. When a mover is hired three or more days in advance, it must provide a copy of its moving services agreement, an Important Notice About Your Move document, and the Important Information for Persons Moving Household Goods booklet, which explains the rules and your rights. Ask for those documents if you do not receive them, from us or from anyone else.
If Something Goes Wrong on a Move
Our first request is that you call us at (858) 490-0155 between 8am and 8pm any day of the week, because a family owned company answers for its own work and can usually resolve a problem directly. That said, you should know the formal path too. Under California rules, a loss or damage claim must be filed in writing within nine months after your goods are delivered. Put the claim in writing, describe the item and the damage, and keep a copy for yourself so the date is documented.
If a dispute with any licensed mover cannot be settled, the Bureau of Household Goods and Services accepts complaints through its complaint form, which can be downloaded and mailed or submitted online. The Bureau is located at 4244 South Market Court, Suite D, Sacramento, CA 95834. Because our permit is issued by that Bureau, its complaint process applies to us the same way it applies to every other household mover in the state.

Discount Movers is a carrier. Discount Moving and Storage LLC holds its own California household mover permit and its own USDOT number, and the crew that loads your belongings works for the company. A broker arranges a move and hands it to another company; when you book with us, the company you spoke with is the company that arrives on move day.
What is the deadline to file a damage claim after a California move?
Under California household mover rules, a loss or damage claim must be filed in writing within nine months after your goods have been delivered. Call us first so we can address the problem directly, then follow up in writing so the date is documented. If a dispute cannot be resolved with any licensed mover, the Bureau of Household Goods and Services accepts complaints by mail or online.
