Racking is a structure, not furniture. In California it is anchored for seismic loading, it carries a capacity that depends on beam level spacing, and changing that spacing changes what the bay is rated to hold. So a rack relocation is really a rebuild. We take it down bay by bay with the configuration recorded, move it, and put it back in the same configuration unless you have asked for a different one and had the capacity checked. What we do not do is guess at capacity or sign off on an engineered design.

Configuration gets recorded before teardown

Beam heights, bay widths, upright depths and row spacing are documented bay by bay. Rebuild follows that record, so your slotting and bin locations still mean something afterwards.

Anchoring is a seismic requirement here, not an option

California anchors racking. Every upright foot gets anchored to the slab to the manufacturer’s pattern. This is the part people skip when they move racking themselves and it is the part that matters most.

Changing beam spacing changes capacity

Rack capacity is quoted per beam level at a given spacing. Raise a level and the rating changes. If you want a different configuration, that is a capacity question for the manufacturer or an engineer before it is a labor question for us.

Load plaques travel with the rack

The capacity plaque belongs to that configuration. It comes down, it goes back up, and if it has gone missing the manufacturer can reissue against the original order.

Tall or unusual configurations may need a permit

Height, seismic design category and configuration decide whether a permit and an engineered submittal apply. We will tell you when we think you are in that territory. The submittal itself comes from an engineer.

Wire decks, row spacers, column protectors, pallet supports, safety netting and guard rail.

Buy back and disposal

Racking you are not taking can be broken down and removed. Resale value depends on brand and condition and we will be straight with you about it.

Survey and record

We photograph and document the existing configuration, count components, and check the destination slab and ceiling height against what you have.

Product off the rack

Racking comes down after the product that lives on it has moved. Bays have to be empty and swept before teardown starts.

Teardown and anchor removal

Bay by bay in row order. Anchors cut flush or drilled, holes patched to your lease condition.

Rebuild at the destination

Rows set out from the agreed layout, uprights plumbed, beams to the recorded spacing, decking and accessories back on.

Anchor, plaque and walk

Every foot anchored to pattern, load plaques reinstalled, and a walk with your operations lead before we leave.

Most of the racking we touch sits in the county’s industrial belts. Otay Mesa runs deep distribution buildings with high clear heights, so the racking is taller and the anchoring conversation is more serious. Miramar and Kearny Mesa hold older tilt up stock where slab condition varies and anchor removal takes longer than people expect. Vista and San Marcos carry a lot of light manufacturing with mixed racking picked up secondhand over the years, which is exactly the case where recording configuration before teardown pays for itself. Questions

Do you anchor the racking when you reinstall it?+

Yes. Anchoring is a seismic requirement in California, not an upgrade. Every upright foot is anchored to the slab following the manufacturer’s pattern. Racking that is not anchored is the single most common problem we find when a tenant moved their own.

Can you change our beam spacing while you rebuild?+

We can do the labor, but the capacity rating belongs to the configuration. Changing beam levels changes what the bay holds. Get the new configuration confirmed by the manufacturer or an engineer first, then we build to it.

Do we need a permit?+

Sometimes. Height, seismic design category and configuration decide it, and jurisdictions in the county differ. We will tell you when we think a submittal applies, but the engineered drawings come from an engineer, not from us.

What if the load plaques are missing?+

Manufacturers can usually reissue against the original order if you know the brand and series. If nobody knows what the racking is, that is worth resolving before you rebuild, because an unrated rack is a real liability.

Can you take away racking we are not keeping?+

Yes. We break it down and remove it. Whether it has resale value depends on brand, condition and how much of it there is, and we will give you a straight read rather than an optimistic one.

Do you move the product too?+
