Heavy machinery moves on the numbers. Weight, center of gravity, footprint and the floor rating at every point along the path. A machine that fits through the door can still be too heavy for the slab it has to cross, or too tall once it is on skates. So the work starts with the route, not the machine. We survey the path end to end, confirm the floor can take it, and then move it on skates, rollers or a gantry depending on what the space allows. Anything requiring a crane or a permitted oversize load is subcontracted to a licensed rigging or transport specialist and we will tell you plainly when that is the case.
The route is surveyed before the machine is touched
Door widths, ceiling heights, turning radius, floor rating, elevator capacity and dock height, at every point between where it is and where it is going. Most heavy equipment problems are route problems.
Weight on skates is higher than weight on the floor
Putting a machine on skates raises it, which can lose you the door you were counting on. Height gets checked with the rigging in place, not at rest.
Floor loading is a real limit
A point load from a machine foot is very different from a distributed load. If the path crosses a mezzanine, a raised floor or a suspended slab, that rating needs checking before anything rolls.
Anchors and leveling are part of the job
Machines that were anchored come loose carefully and go back down leveled. Precision equipment gets leveled to the manufacturer’s tolerance if you tell us what it is.
Crane work and oversize transport gets specialists
If it needs a crane pick or a permitted oversize load we bring in a licensed specialist rather than improvising. Knowing where our scope ends is part of doing this safely.

Survey both routes end to end
Every door, corner, ramp, elevator and slab between the machine and its destination. This is where a job is won or lost.
Confirm weight and center of gravity
From the plate or the manufacturer’s drawing where possible. A machine with an offset center of gravity behaves very differently on skates.
Disconnect through your trades
Power, air, water, hydraulics and dust extraction disconnected by qualified trades before we lift anything.
Move on the method the space allows
Skates and rollers for flat runs, toe jacks and a gantry for lifts, air casters where the floor is smooth and the load suits it. Crane picks and oversize transport go to a licensed specialist.
Set, level and hand over
Positioned on the plan, leveled to tolerance where you have given us one, anchored if the install requires it, then walked with your maintenance lead.

Or Permit Load
Inside your building the limit is the route. Once the machine is on a truck, two of the limits come from the Vehicle Code and two from the Caltrans permit thresholds, and together they decide whether it travels as a legal load or becomes a permitted load. That line has four numbers in it.
Clear all of it and the load is legal on the highway without a permit. Whether it is a load for our equipment is a second and separate question, and it is the one the route survey at both ends answers. Miss any of it and it is a permit load for a licensed transport specialist.

Is Required
A permit load is not the same job with a bigger truck. It is a separate application, its own timetable, and a licensed transport specialist holding the paper.
Caltrans decides, and it can say no
The Caltrans Office of Commercial Vehicle Operations issues special transportation permits for oversize and overweight vehicles on the State Highway System, and it may do so upon application and if good cause appears. Discretionary, not automatic.
The load has to be non-divisible
Permits are issued only for a non-reducible load, one that cannot be broken down into smaller parts. If your machine separates into legal sections, that is usually the faster path, because the permit route is closed to a load that could have been split.
