What A Move In
Carlsbad Costs
4 movers at $219 an hour cash, 7 to 8 hours for a 4 bedroom house in La Costa, Aviara or Bressi Ranch. That is $1,533 to $1,752 in labor, and at 2,000 cubic feet a 4 bedroom is a two truck job: a $150 second truck fee plus $150 in fuel, on our own ladder, which runs to $269 an hour cash for five movers.

The Direct Answer
The Arithmetic,
Done Out Loud
For a 4 bedroom house in La Costa, Aviara or Bressi Ranch, plan on 4 movers at $219 an hour cash for 7 to 8 hours. That is $1,533 to $1,752 in labor. At 2,000 cubic feet a 4 bedroom is also a two truck job, which adds a $150 second truck fee and makes the fuel $150 rather than $75. The three hour minimum of $657 applies if the job finishes early.
That is our own ladder, from $119 an hour cash for two movers up to $269 for five. We publish it, which most San Diego movers do not. There is no deposit at any point, and nothing is charged before move day.
What moves this number in Carlsbad: Gate access and HOA notice inland, and tight older streets with contested parking in the Village.
The Local Detail
Why Carlsbad
Is Its Own Number
Carlsbad runs larger than most of the county inland, and four movers finishes a big La Costa house faster, and the estimator will not hold it on three anyway: 2,000 cubic feet on three movers is about 9.1 hours, past the 9 hour line where the crew escalates. The Village at the coast is the opposite: smaller, older, and the hardest part of the city to park a truck in.
Our Carlsbad movers page covers the access street by street, the full rate card is one page, and the instant estimate returns a crew size and an hourly rate in about 30 seconds.
The Four Bedroom Number Above Is One Truck Short
Our estimator sizes a 4 bedroom at 2,000 cubic feet and works out trucks by dividing cubic feet by 1,800, rounding up. 2,000 over 1,800 is 1.11, which rounds to two. A 4 bedroom in La Costa, Aviara or Bressi Ranch is a two truck job, and two trucks means a $150 second truck fee plus a second $75 fuel charge. That is $225 the number at the top of this page does not carry.
At the top of the published range, 4 movers at $219 an hour cash for 8 hours is $1,752 in labor. Add the $75 fuel fee, the $150 second truck fee and the second $75 fuel charge and the job is $2,052. At 7.3 hours it is about $1,666 in labor and $1,966 all in. A 5 bedroom at 2,650 cubic feet is two trucks by the same divisor. Anything under 1,800 cubic feet is one truck and one $75 fuel fee.
If The House Is Two Story, The Stairs Are On Every Trip
The box above says no access adjustment applies inland. That holds only where both ends are flat. Our access factor starts at 1.0, and one flight subtracts 0.08 carrying down at the load end and 0.15 carrying up at the unload end. If both your Carlsbad addresses have a second floor, both deductions apply. We price what yours is, not what most Carlsbad houses are.
That 4 bedroom, worked twice: 2,000 cubic feet, half at each end, 4 movers at 275 cubic feet an hour. Flat both ends: 1,000 over 275 is 3.64 hours per end, 7.3 hours. With stairs, the load end is 275 times 0.92, or 253, and 1,000 over 253 is 3.95 hours. The unload end is 275 times 0.85, or 233.75, and 1,000 over 233.75 is 4.28 hours. Total 8.2 hours. The stairs cost about 0.9 of an hour, close to $197 at $219. A gate costs time once. Stairs are charged on every trip.
Why So Many Carlsbad Addresses Come With A Gate
In 1986 the City of Carlsbad adopted a growth management ordinance requiring new development to plan, build and fund its own infrastructure. One result is that much of the city east and south of I-5 arrived as whole master planned communities rather than one lot at a time, which is why a Carlsbad address often comes with a gate or an association wanting notice first.
On the bill that is a start of day cost. The crew clears the gate once, at the front of the day, and it does not compound after. Fifteen minutes at a call box with 4 movers at $219 an hour cash is about $55. Send the notice ahead and it is zero. The flip side: a driveway and an attached garage to stage out of holds the factor at 1.0. An elevator or a long carry subtracts 0.15 each, and the factor never drops below 0.4.
Carlsbad's Own Code Decides Where The Truck Can Sit
Carlsbad is an incorporated city with its own police department and municipal code. Parking is Title 10, Chapter 10.40, enforced by Carlsbad Police. CMC 10.40.075 bars parking a commercial vehicle rated 10,000 pounds GVWR or more on a residential street, and a 26 foot truck is over that rating. The exception makes the day legal: the code allows it while making pickups or deliveries to a building on that street, and while parked in connection with a service rendered to property on that block for as long as its presence is required. The truck is working, not staged.
CMC 10.40.180 covers oversized vehicles between 2:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m.: over seven feet high measured from the street, over twenty two feet bumper to bumper, or over seven feet wide. A 26 foot truck exceeds all three, so there is no overnight street staging in Carlsbad. A job into a second day means the truck returns to our yard on Miramar Pl and comes back, and that return leg is drive time on your clock.
The Village And The Barrio Bill A Different Shape
West of I-5 is the Village, and the Barrio sits west of I-5 and south of Carlsbad Village Drive per the city's Village and Barrio Master Plan. Curb space is the constraint. CMC 10.40.041 posts stretches of Carlsbad Boulevard no parking at all hours, and Carlsbad Village Drive from the railroad crossing west to Carlsbad Boulevard carries a two hour limit. We do not guess which applies to your address. The effect prices the job: the crew stages on a side street and carries, and a long carry subtracts 0.15 at that end.
A Village studio at 350 cubic feet with 2 movers at 120 cubic feet an hour is 175 divided by 120 at each end, 2.9 hours, under our three hour minimum, so it bills at the $357 minimum plus $75 fuel. Add the long carry at the Village end and that end becomes 175 over 102, or 1.7 hours, against 1.5 at the other. Now it is 3.2 hours, roughly $381 at $119 plus the $75.
A 2 bedroom at 850 cubic feet with a long carry at both ends would take 2 movers 8.3 hours, crossing our rule that 2 movers past 7 hours becomes 3. So the estimator runs 3 movers at 220 cubic feet an hour: 425 over 187 is 2.3 hours per end, 4.5 hours, $760.50 at $169 plus $75. With a driveway at both ends it is 3.9 hours, $659.10 plus $75. The Village is slower per cubic foot, not a more expensive city.
When The Truck Has To Occupy A Travel Lane
Under CMC Chapter 11.16 the City Engineer administers encroachment permits in Carlsbad, and work requiring temporary, partial or full closure of the traveled way or the sidewalk cannot begin until a traffic control permit issues. An ordinary Carlsbad residential move does not need one, since the truck sits at the curb under the loading exception in 10.40.075. It comes up on a Village multifamily building or a beachfront address with no legal curb. Tell us at the estimate stage, not on move morning. Lead time nobody took is crew standing still on the clock.
Three Lagoons And The Drive Time Line On Your Bill
Three lagoons cut Carlsbad east to west with limited crossings: Buena Vista at the north, Agua Hedionda in the middle, Batiquitos at the south. The through routes are I-5 and Carlsbad Boulevard on the coast and El Camino Real inland, with Palomar Airport Road the main east to west connector. We will not quote a mileage or a drive time, because we cannot measure one. We can name the route. Drive time is added to the loading and unloading hours, not multiplied into them, so a Carlsbad to Carlsbad move is one trip on the clock.
