The run is I-15 north, then east on I-90/I-94 — about 1,800 miles to Fargo, a bit less to Bismarck. From November through March this is one of the weather-hardest routes we drive: I-94 and I-29 close outright in blizzards, and NDDOT’s travel alerts decide the schedule, not the calendar. We move people to North Dakota all winter; we just quote it with a real weather window instead of pretending January is June. Deep-cold transit also has a practical side: houseplants will not survive days in a sub-zero trailer, and TVs and electronics should sit at room temperature before powering on after arrival.
The demand on this route is jobs. Fargo’s healthcare, university, and tech employers pull steady relocations; Bismarck is state government; Minot adds Air Force families; and the Williston Basin oil patch still generates short-notice moves where the start date was yesterday.
