Route Notes

THE SHORT HAUL EAST: HEAT, INSPECTIONS & TIMING

Phoenix is only ~355 miles out I-8/I-10 — close enough that Arizona moves often load and deliver inside the same week. The route’s real variables are seasonal: from June through September the desert crossing runs well above 105°F, so summer loads are scheduled early in the day, and candles, aerosols, and heat-sensitive electronics ride better in your car than in a box truck. Monsoon season (roughly July–September) can throw sudden dust storms across I-10 near the border towns; when visibility drops, trucks park until it passes — it rarely costs more than an hour or two.

One regulatory quirk both directions: agricultural inspection stations. Arizona operates ports of entry that can check plants and produce coming in, and California inspects everything coming back the other way. Ordinary houseplants usually pass, but citrus and outdoor plants can be refused — ask before load day. Who’s making this move? Retirees and snowbirds to the Valley and Tucson, students to ASU and U of A, and military families rotating to Luke AFB, Davis-Monthan, and Fort Huachuca. One scheduling footnote: most of Arizona doesn’t observe daylight saving time, so summer delivery windows sit an hour off California clocks.

The Part Nobody Tells You

WE'RE THE CARRIER, NOT A BROKER

Most companies quoting long-distance moves online are brokers — middlemen who take a deposit, then sell your move to the cheapest carrier they can find. That's how prices double at pickup and belongings get held hostage. When Discount Movers quotes your move, the company quoting you is the company that loads, drives, and delivers.

⚠ Booking through a broker

  • Your move is auctioned to an unknown carrier
  • "Estimate" often jumps at pickup
  • Nobody accountable when things go wrong
  • ✓ Booking Discount Movers

  • Our trucks, our background-checked crews
  • Flat rate locked in writing before we load
  • One company accountable, door to door

    Before You Book

    ARIZONA MOVE QUESTIONS

Can you load and deliver in the same week?

Usually, yes — Phoenix, Mesa, and Tucson are 2–3 day transits, and many Arizona moves deliver within days of loading. Flagstaff adds distance and elevation but stays inside the same window.

Will my plants make it through the border stations?

Common houseplants usually pass Arizona’s ports of entry, but citrus and some outdoor plants can be turned away, and California inspects the reverse trip. Tell us what you’re growing and we’ll flag anything risky before load day.

How do you handle a July move in the desert?

Early loads, sealed cartons for anything heat-sensitive, and our advice to carry candles, vinyl records, and medications in your own vehicle. The desert heat is a packing problem, not a scheduling one.

Is Flagstaff different from a Phoenix delivery?

It’s ~490 miles and 7,000 feet up — winter deliveries there can meet actual snow while Phoenix sits at 75°F. Same flat-rate process, occasionally a chain-law delay in January.
