The Direct Answer
What Does A Move
In Liberty Station Cost?
Discount Movers charges $119 an hour cash for two movers and a truck in Liberty Station, on our own published ladder that runs to $269 an hour cash for five movers. The three hour minimum is $357, there is a flat $75 fuel fee, and there is no deposit, ever.
What moves the number here is shared garages set the plan: much of the housing here parks in shared or structured garages rather than on private driveways. The full rate card is one page, and the instant estimate returns a crew size and an hourly rate in about 30 seconds.
Housing Stock & Access
Liberty Station Homes
& Access
The building manager governs a Liberty Station move more than the map does. This is the redeveloped Naval Training Center, and the housing is condos, townhomes and rentals arranged around shared garages, shared courtyards and a walkable arts district that fills with visitors on weekends. The streets are wide and flat, the distances are short, and almost every complication comes from the shared spaces the district was designed around rather than from the roads themselves.
Shared garages set the plan
Much of the housing here parks in shared or structured garages rather than on private driveways. Those garages have real height limits and assigned spaces, so the truck usually stands at the curb or in a loading area while the crew carries through the garage or courtyard. We work out which entrance actually serves your unit before the day, because the shortest path is rarely the obvious one.
Weekend crowds in the arts district
Liberty Public Market, the galleries and NTC Park draw steady visitor traffic from late morning, and weekends are the busiest of all. Curb space near the commercial core disappears with the crowds. A weekday move, or an early weekend start, keeps the truck close to the door instead of a block away, and on an hourly job that difference is worth real money.
Townhome stairs and interior turns
The residential stock is mostly newer townhomes and condos built vertically, with interior stairs between the garage level and the living space. Larger pieces sometimes need disassembly to make the turns, and that is a crew and tools question rather than a problem. Telling us the floor plan when you book lets us send the right number of people the first time.
Managed buildings with move rules
Most of Liberty Station is governed by associations and property managers, and many buildings have rules about when and where a move happens: loading areas, courtyard protection, sometimes a reserved window. We ask you to check with your manager when you book, and we handle the rest, because turning up unannounced to a managed building is how a three hour job becomes a five hour one.
Rosecrans sets the travel time
Everything in and out of the peninsula runs through Rosecrans Street, and it backs up at commute hours and on event weekends. Liberty Station itself is quick to load once the truck is positioned, so the travel is where the time hides. An early start clears Rosecrans in both directions and usually saves more than any other single decision on the day.
Every Liberty Station address is different. Send us a photo of the street and the entrance and we will tell you what the access means for your crew size, your carry and your estimate.

Areas We Cover
Why There Is No Old House In Liberty Station
Naval Training Center San Diego was commissioned in 1923 on land the City of San Diego donated to the Navy. It closed in 1997 under the 1993 BRAC round, and the site was redeveloped by the Corky McMillin Companies under agreement with the City of San Diego into the mixed use district people now call Liberty Station. Discount Movers also started work in San Diego in 1997. Nothing connects the two dates. The coincidence has one practical edge: every residential building here went up during the years we have been loading trucks in this county.
The consequence for your move is that there is no original Navy housing to inherit. Callers ask whether their unit is a converted barracks or an old set of officer's quarters, and the answer is no. The historic fabric is the civic and commercial core of the old base. The condos, townhomes and rental buildings are redevelopment era construction, built to current era dimensions rather than to 1920s barracks dimensions. A Liberty Station inventory rarely turns into the kind of job where a sofa came apart to get in and has to come apart again to get out, which is a regular event in the older parts of the city.
Navy Street Names And The Address You Actually Give Us
Liberty Station's streets carry Navy names. Truxtun Road, Historic Decatur Road, Cushing Road and Womble Road are the ones that reach our dispatch sheet most often, with Rosecrans Street running along the boundary rather than through the middle of the district. The names are short, they are formal, and over a phone line they sound close enough to each other that one syllable decides which block a crew parks on.
Customers here also tend to give a building name or a community name rather than a street, because that is how the leasing office and the association refer to the property. A community name does not resolve to a gate. Give us the road, the number and the entrance you want the truck at, and if the property has two entrances, say which one has the loading area. Confirm the road and the entrance, not the community name, and the crew arrives at the door instead of at the sign.
A 26 Foot Truck On A Parade Ground Grid
The district was laid out as a military base, around parade grounds and service roads, and the public streets it inherited are wide, straight and level. A 26 foot truck has no turning radius problem here, no grade to hold on, and no switchback to reverse out of. That is the reverse of the rest of the peninsula, where the hill dictates the whole approach and the truck size is decided by the street.
What that buys you is specific. The ramp comes down onto level ground, so loaded dollies roll instead of being fought up an incline. A second truck can work the same address without one boxing in the other, which matters on a four bedroom going out in a single day. A second truck adds $150 plus a second $75 fuel charge, and on the right Liberty Station job the level approach is what makes it pay for itself. Nothing about the public street approach here calls for a shuttle vehicle. Every real constraint sits off street, behind a garage door or a courtyard gate, which means it can be known in advance rather than found at the curb.
The Boat Channel Edge And Its Unbroken Curb
The boat channel was cut to connect the training center to San Diego Bay, and it forms the northern edge of the district. NTC Park runs along it with a paved waterfront promenade. San Diego International Airport sits immediately north on the far side of that water.
The park edge behaves differently from the rest of Liberty Station for a crew. Long stretches of frontage there have no driveways cutting them, so there is continuous curb to set up against and no neighbor's access to block while the truck sits. Addresses backing onto the park usually have their vehicle access on the opposite side of the building from the water view. Check that before the day. The door with the view is often not the door with the loading path, and walking the wrong one first costs you the first half hour.
Flat Here, Graded The Moment You Leave
Liberty Station sits near sea level and is essentially flat. The rest of the peninsula climbs above it. Inside the district, grade is simply not a factor in the job.
The confusion arrives with the second half of a move. Plenty of the work we do here is peninsula to peninsula, and a move from a level Liberty Station condo up to a house on the hill is not the same access job at both ends. The origin is level curb and level ramp. The destination can be a graded driveway, a stepped entry and a street where the truck has to be positioned deliberately. We quote that as one job and size the crew to the harder end rather than the easier one. If you describe only the Liberty Station end, you have described the half of the day that was never going to be the problem.
The Certificate Of Insurance, And The Deposit That Is Not Ours
Most Liberty Station buildings are association governed or professionally managed, and the paperwork they ask for is consistent from one to the next. They want a certificate of insurance naming both the association and the management company as additional insured. They want an advance move in window on the calendar. Some want elevator or corridor padding installed before anything comes through. We issue a certificate of insurance on request. Send us both names exactly as your manager writes them, because a certificate naming only one of the two gets bounced at the desk and the crew stands still while it is reissued.
The deposit question deserves to be separated out carefully, because it is a point customers here get told wrong. Some associations hold their own refundable move deposit against damage to shared corridors, elevators and courtyards. Discount Movers takes no deposit at any point, ever, and takes no payment online. So if money is being asked for before move day, it is the association's deposit, it is held by the association, and the association's rules govern getting it back. Nobody from Discount Movers will ask you for a deposit, and if someone claiming to be us does, that is your signal.
Marine Layer Mornings Are An Operational Fact
Liberty Station sits on the bay side of the peninsula and runs a coastal microclimate. In May and June the marine layer often holds until midday. Afternoons bring a steady onshore breeze off the bay. The district runs cooler than our yard at Miramar on the same morning, which is why a crew that leaves the yard in short sleeves arrives to something different. In the fall, Santa Ana conditions reverse the flow and even the coast turns hot and dry.
Plan for damp, not for heat. Cardboard left standing on a wet morning curb goes soft at the corners, and a soft box is a dropped box. Tailgates and ramps get slick under a marine layer, and the open bayfront curb near the park gives the afternoon breeze something to catch when a crew is walking a mattress or a mirror carton across it. We keep cartons off the ground, work them from door to truck rather than staging them on the sidewalk, and do not stack a load onto a box that has been sitting outside since seven in the morning. If you are packing yourself, keep your sealed boxes inside until the crew calls for them.
Arcades, Tile Roofs And Moving Out Of The Old Buildings
The core of the old base is Spanish Colonial Revival: two story white stucco buildings with red tile roofs and long arcaded walkways running their length. It is the reason the district photographs the way it does. It is also a loading constraint, and it catches commercial customers off guard more often than residential ones.
A truck cannot pull up to the door of an arcaded building the way it can at the newer retail core. The arcade is the walkway, and the walkway is where the entrance is. An office, studio or gallery move out of those buildings is a carry from the nearest service road or loading area, along the arcade, and then in. That is a distance and crew size question rather than an obstacle, but it should be priced before the day instead of discovered at eight in the morning with a conference table already on a dolly. If your business sits in the older buildings, tell us the building and which side of the arcade your door faces when you book an office move.
Who Lives Here And What That Does To Your Date
The employment anchors reachable from Liberty Station without touching a freeway are Naval Base Point Loma, including the submarine base and Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific, renamed from SPAWAR in 2019, and San Diego International Airport immediately north across the boat channel. That produces a resident base weighted toward active duty households, civilian defense staff and contractors. Commuters headed elsewhere, to downtown, Sorrento Valley or UTC, leave via Rosecrans Street to I-5, and there is no second route off the peninsula that avoids it.
The scheduling effect is what actually reaches your invoice. Orders set dates, and orders do not consult an association's move in calendar. When the two collide, book the building's window first and the truck second, because we can usually work around a fixed window and a property manager rarely reopens one. If a service member is already at the next duty station and a spouse is running the move alone, say so when you book. We handle plenty of military moves that way and we will do the walkthrough and the inventory count knowing one signature is out of state.
There Is No Hiking Trail At Liberty Station
This is worth stating plainly because other moving company pages claim otherwise. Liberty Station has no hiking trail. It is flat and it is fully built. The walking here is the paved bayfront promenade along the boat channel at NTC Park, level the whole way. Any page that promises you trailheads at Liberty Station is describing somewhere else on the peninsula and has not sent anyone to either place.
We raise it because the same habit produces a wrong quote. A company that guesses at your neighborhood's geography will guess at your access, and that guess reaches you as an hour you did not plan for. What is genuinely here is short, level distance between the housing and the market, and garages that fill up with the gear that goes with it. Bikes, strollers, kayaks and paddleboards take truck space out of all proportion to their weight and they are the items customers forget when listing an inventory. If they are in your garage, count them.
How The Truck Reaches You From The Miramar Yard
Our yard is at 8775 Miramar Place. There are two clean approaches to Liberty Station from it. The first is I-8 west to its terminus at Sunset Cliffs Boulevard and Nimitz Boulevard, then Nimitz south to Rosecrans Street. The second is I-5 to the Rosecrans Street exit, then south through the Midway District. Which one a crew takes depends on the hour and on which direction is backed up, and dispatch makes that call the morning of the move.
We give crews a freeway route rather than a distance. We will not quote you a drive time to Liberty Station, because Rosecrans at nine on a Tuesday and Rosecrans on a Saturday at noon are not the same road and any single number we gave you would be wrong on one of those days. What we will give you is an arrival window, and a phone call if it moves.
