One Address, Three Names

French Valley is not a post office place name. Addresses here fall in ZIP codes 92563 and 92596, and the city line that prints on your mail, your utility bill and your escrow paperwork usually reads Winchester or Murrieta instead. The listing that sold you the house almost certainly said French Valley. All three can describe the same driveway, and none of them is wrong.

That is why we ask for the ZIP code and the street together when you book, not the city name. A dispatcher handed "Murrieta" for a job that is actually off Leon Road plans the wrong approach, and a crew told "Winchester" may go looking for the older part of Winchester rather than the newer phases. Give us the house number, the street and either 92563 or 92596, and the routing is settled before anyone leaves the yard on Miramar Place.

Riverside County Runs This Ground, Not A City Hall

French Valley is an unincorporated census designated place in Riverside County. It is not in San Diego County, and it is not inside the city limits of Temecula or Murrieta even though both names get attached to it in conversation. Land use, road authority and permits here come from the county rather than from either city.

That has a practical edge on move day. There is no Temecula or Murrieta public works counter to call about a French Valley street, because the streets are county roads or private association roads. In practice the truck stands in your driveway and the rule that actually governs the day is your HOA's, not a municipal one. If your association restricts move hours or wants a certificate of insurance on file first, say so when you book and we send it ahead. Our own authority does not stop at the county line either. Two Ways To Get A Truck Into The Valley

Winchester Road is State Route 79. It is the main I-15 connection into the valley from north Temecula, and it is the approach most French Valley jobs use coming up from San Diego. If your written directions say 79 and your new neighbor says Winchester, those are the same road and you have not been given two options.

The second way in comes from the north. I-215 to Scott Road at Menifee, then east and south into the valley, which keeps the truck off the north Temecula stretch of the 15 altogether. We choose between the two on the morning of the move rather than in advance. The heavy directional flow in this corridor is southbound on I-15 out of the Temecula and Murrieta area on weekday mornings, with the same volume returning northbound in the evening, so the direction your loaded leg runs matters as much as the hour it runs in.

The Interchange Work In North Temecula

The I-15 and French Valley Parkway interchange project in north Temecula is an ongoing multi phase job, and it produces intermittent ramp and lane closures on the approach a lot of French Valley moves depend on. Published schedules for work of this size shift, so we do not plan anyone's move against a construction calendar we read months earlier.

What we do instead is check current closures the week of your move. If a ramp we would normally take is shut that week, the truck goes around on the northern approach through Menifee or comes off the freeway at a different exit and finishes on surface streets. French Valley sits inland behind the Santa Ana Mountains, and a summer afternoon here runs hotter than the same afternoon at our Miramar Place yard. That changes the sequence of the day rather than the price of it. When the forecast is high we start early, clear the garage and the heavy furniture while the concrete is still cool, and leave the light box work for the back half of the day.

It also changes what should not sit in a closed trailer through an inland afternoon. Candles, vinyl records, laminate flat pack furniture held together with adhesive, cosmetics and anything else with a wax or glue component ride better in a cab or in your own car. So do the electronics you intend to plug in that night. Point them out at the walkthrough and we set them aside at the start, rather than finding the problem when the doors open at the other end.

Your Power And Gas Change Companies, Not Just Addresses

Electricity in the Temecula, Murrieta and French Valley area is Southern California Edison, and natural gas is Southern California Gas Company. If you are coming from a San Diego address, both of your current accounts sit with SDG&E, and neither one follows you. You are closing one account and opening two, with two companies you may never have dealt with.

Get it done before move day rather than after. An empty tract house with no power in August is a poor place to send a crew, and the garage door opener you were planning to load through will not lift. One wrinkle worth knowing: Edison is the delivery utility, but some Riverside County communities buy their generation through a community choice program, so the generation half of the bill may carry a different name. That is a billing question rather than a moving one, and it catches people who assume it is an error.

The Airport The Valley Is Named Around

French Valley Airport is a Riverside County owned public general aviation airport on Sky Canyon Drive, and it is the landmark the community is named around. Most residents describe where they live in relation to it, which suits us, because Sky Canyon is a real arterial and a fixed point in an area where tract names change with every phase.

When you give us directions, "off Sky Canyon, north of the airport" tells our dispatcher more than a subdivision name that has not reached any map yet. It is a general aviation field rather than a commercial one, so for a moving crew what it mostly does is orient them. On a first visit to a street that did not exist two years ago, that is worth more than it sounds.

Pourroy, Nicolas, And The Rest Of The Map

French grain farmers and sheepherders settled this valley beginning in the late 1800s, and their surnames survive on the map today. Pourroy Road and Nicolas Road are named for early settler families in the valley, and the name French Valley itself traces to those households rather than to anything about the terrain.

This lands on a manifest more often than you would expect. Crews read street names off a printed sheet, and Pourroy is the kind of spelling that gets entered three different ways into a phone. Benton Road and Leon Road cross the same general area and are easy to transpose in a hurry, so we confirm the cross street as well as the street.

French Valley grew substantially between the 2010 and 2020 censuses, from roughly 23,000 to roughly 35,000 residents, and the building did not stop when the counting did. That growth is the practical reason a truck can end up circling a block that is plainly there.
