Event work runs on a clock that belongs to somebody else. The show sets the move in and move out windows, the venue sets the dock rules, and the marshalling yard sets when your truck actually gets to a door. Miss a window and you are not late, you are out. So the value here is not the lifting, it is arriving in the right place at the right hour with the paperwork already right. San Diego has a heavy convention calendar and the venues each work differently, which is worth knowing before you book a truck.
The show clock governs everything
Move in and move out windows are published by the show, not negotiated with the venue. We schedule backwards from your assigned window and build in margin for the marshalling yard.
Marshalling yards mean waiting is part of the plan
Large shows stage trucks in a yard and call them to a dock in order. That wait is normal and it has to be priced and planned rather than discovered on the day.
Venue labor rules vary and they are not ours to interpret
Some venues and shows require designated labor for work on the show floor. What a carrier may do at the dock versus on the floor differs by show. Check your exhibitor manual, and we will work to whatever it says.
Move out is the harder half
Everyone leaves at once. Empty containers have to return to your booth before you can pack, and freight has to be labeled and ready before the carrier is called. Move out is where shows most often go wrong.
Paperwork travels with the freight
Bills of lading, booth number, show name and a contact who is actually on site. Freight that arrives without its paperwork becomes somebody’s problem in a warehouse.

Read the exhibitor manual first
It sets your target dates, your window, the marshalling procedure and what labor rules apply. Everything we plan comes from that document.
Schedule backwards from the window
Pickup timed so the truck reaches the yard with margin, not so it leaves your warehouse at a convenient hour.
Freight labeled to the show standard
Show name, booth number, piece count and on site contact on every piece. Anything unlabelled is anonymous freight once it is inside a convention center.
Deliver, check in, unload
Yard check in, dock assignment, unload to your booth space, and confirmation to your on site contact.
Move out with the empties back first
Nothing packs until empty containers return to the booth. Freight ready and labeled before the carrier is called, which is what stops a booth sitting on a dock overnight.

The San Diego Convention Center dominates the calendar, and Comic Con is the extreme case, with a move in and move out that reshapes downtown traffic for a week and a marshalling procedure that has to be respected to the letter. Outside that, the center runs a steady program of medical, biotech and technology conferences where the same discipline applies at a smaller scale. Hotel ballrooms across downtown, Mission Bay, Coronado and La Jolla host conferences and corporate activations, each with its own dock and service elevator constraints and usually much tighter access than the convention center. Del Mar Fairgrounds runs trade and consumer shows with grade level access, which is by far the easiest environment to load into. Balboa Park venues and Petco Park handle events with real access limits worth surveying before you commit to a plan. We are a licensed California carrier, CAL-T #201759 and US DOT #4372335.
