Every hour figure on this page comes from the same estimator behind our instant estimate: volume by home size, a crew speed in cubic feet an hour, and a deduction for stairs and long carries. Run your own address through it and you will get these numbers back. Rates are the published rate card.

The Arithmetic,
Done Out Loud

For a 1 bedroom in one of the downtown Escondido apartment communities, plan on 2 movers at $119 an hour cash for 4 to 5 hours, which is $476 to $595 in labor. A 2 bedroom is 850 cubic feet, which crosses our 7 hour escalation line on two movers, so it runs 3 movers at $169 for 4 to 5 hours, $676 to $845. Both come with the flat $75 fuel fee, and the three hour minimum is $357 on two movers and $507 on three, if the job finishes early.

That is our own ladder, from $119 an hour cash for two movers up to $269 for five, and $10 an hour more on each crew size when you pay by card. We publish it, which most San Diego movers do not. There is no deposit at any point, and nothing is charged before move day.

Where those hours come from. Our published table puts a 1 bedroom at 3 to 5 hours on two movers and a 2 bedroom at 4 to 5 hours on three. Apartment stairs and structured parking downtown are why Escondido jobs land at the top of those bands. That is the whole calculation, and you can check it against the San Diego cost guide.

What moves this number in Escondido: Distance from the coast shows up as travel time, and inland summer heat pushes starts earlier.

Why Escondido
Is Its Own Number

Escondido splits between downtown apartment stock, which two movers handle comfortably, and larger inland houses that want three. Escondido sits at the far north end of our local coverage from the Miramar yard, and that travel time goes in the written estimate up front rather than surfacing at the end.

Our Escondido movers page covers the access street by street, the full rate card is one page, and the instant estimate returns a crew size and an hourly rate in about 30 seconds.

How we get to Escondido, and the roads inside the city

Our trucks take I-15 out of the Miramar yard, and I-15 stays the spine inside Escondido. SR-78 runs east to west and ties the city to San Marcos, Vista and I-5 at Oceanside.

Inside the city the working roads are Centre City Parkway, Valley Parkway, Grand Avenue, El Norte Parkway, Bear Valley Parkway, and Del Dios Highway toward Rancho Santa Fe. Travel time goes into the written estimate with the hourly rate next to it.

A one bedroom and a two bedroom in Escondido are two different jobs

Our estimator sizes a 1 bedroom at 450 cubic feet and a 2 bedroom at 850, and those two do not land on the same crew. Two movers work at 120 cubic feet an hour, so a 1 bedroom with a flat walk at both ends is (225 divided by 120) at each end, about 3.75 hours. At $119 an hour cash that is $446.25 plus the flat $75 fuel fee, against a three hour minimum of $357.

A 2 bedroom on two movers is (425 divided by 120) at each end, about 7.1 hours, and the estimator moves any two mover job of 7 hours or more up to three. Three movers run 220 cubic feet an hour, so the same 850 cubic feet is about 3.9 hours, which is $659.10 at $169 an hour cash plus the $75 fuel fee, against a three hour minimum of $507. Price an Escondido 2 bedroom at three movers from the start. Every hour figure on this page is before drive time.

The flat pad Escondido house is the no penalty case

Escondido contains large tracts of single story detached houses on flat graded pads, attached garage, driveway long enough to hold a 26 foot truck. The truck backs in, the tailgate sits at the garage, everything is on one level. No stairs, no elevator and no long carry, so the access factor at that end is 1.0.

A 3 bedroom is 1400 cubic feet and fits one truck. Three movers at 220 cubic feet an hour is (700 divided by 220) at each end, about 6.4 hours, or $1,081.60 at $169 an hour cash plus the flat $75 fuel fee.

Take the same 1400 cubic feet where the load end has one flight up and a long carry. Each takes 0.15 off, so that end runs at 0.70 and the hours become (700 divided by 154) plus (700 divided by 220), about 7.7 hours, or $1,301.30. Same size home, same crew, $219.70 more, all of it access. Clearing the frontage the night before is ordinary move day advice, and it is what keeps the first job from becoming the second.

A four bedroom Escondido house crosses into a second truck

The estimator sizes a 4 bedroom at 2000 cubic feet and puts 1800 on a truck, so 2000 rounds up to two trucks. A four bedroom house here is a two truck job, and two trucks means the $150 second truck fee plus a second $75 fuel charge, $300 in fees instead of $75.

Four movers move 275 cubic feet an hour, so 2000 cubic feet with clear driveways at both ends is (1000 divided by 275) at each end, about 7.3 hours. At $219 an hour cash that is $1,598.70 in labor, or $1,898.70 with the truck fee and both fuel charges. Four movers escalate to five at 10 hours or more, so 7.3 stays a four mover crew. A three bedroom is 1400 cubic feet on one truck, so the step up is $225 in fees on top of the extra labor.

The older Escondido grid: porch steps, narrow doors, alley garages

Escondido has a city designated historic district of pre war houses south of downtown, Craftsman, Victorian and Spanish Revival. A crew plans for three things. Raised foundations, so three to six porch steps at the threshold. Original narrow door and hall openings, so sofas, box springs and armoires go through on edge. And a detached garage at the back of the lot off an alley, not ten feet from the tailgate. Measure the openings at the estimate, because a piece that will not turn becomes a disassembly.

Those alleys are narrow, most have no turnaround for a 26 foot truck, and a truck standing in one blocks every neighbor behind it, so alley or street is decided at the walkthrough. When the truck stands in the street and the walk runs to the back of the lot, that end takes the long carry, 0.15 off. On a 3 bedroom at 1400 cubic feet with three movers, the load end goes from (700 divided by 220) to (700 divided by 187), about 6.9 hours instead of 6.4, so $1,166.10 instead of $1,081.60, about $84.50 for the walk.

Grand Avenue is built with angled parking at the curb, which leaves no continuous run of straight curb long enough for a 26 foot truck, so for an address on Grand or right off it the truck goes onto a side street or into an alley. A 1 bedroom at 450 cubic feet with two movers, one flight up and a long carry at that end, runs at 0.70: (225 divided by 84) plus (225 divided by 120), about 4.6 hours, $547.40 at $119 an hour cash plus the $75 fuel fee, against $446.25 with the truck at the door.

Mobile home and 55+ park moves are routine Escondido work

Escondido has administered mobilehome rent control for a long time, and park work is normal Escondido work for us. Gated parks want the crew checked in at the entry, interior lanes are sized for passenger cars, and the clearance problem is usually not the gate but the carport posts and the awning over the space.

So the truck stages near the entrance and the crew carries from there, which is the long carry, 0.15 off at that end. On 850 cubic feet with three movers that moves the job from about 3.9 hours to about 4.2, so $709.80 at $169 an hour cash instead of $659.10, same $75 fuel fee either way. Park management decides where a truck may stand, not the city and not us, and that is the resident's call to the park office.

An Escondido mailing address is not always the city of Escondido

Hidden Meadows and Jesmond Dene carry Escondido addresses in the 92026 zip and sit in unincorporated San Diego County. The rate card does not change. What changes is who controls the road at your door. It is either the County's or a private easement, and on a private easement nobody public controls it.

So we confirm three things at the estimate. Whether the drive is private. Whether there is a gate and a code. And whether a 26 foot truck can turn around once it is in. If not, the truck stages where it can turn and the crew carries, which is the long carry at 0.15 off, priced in the estimate rather than found in the driveway.

Escondido Cost
Questions

For a 1 bedroom in one of the downtown Escondido apartment communities, budget 2 movers at $119 an hour cash for 4 to 5 hours, which is $476 to $595 in labor plus a flat $75 fuel fee; the three hour minimum is $357. A 2 bedroom is 850 cubic feet, which crosses our 7 hour escalation line on two movers, so it runs 3 movers at $169 for 4 to 5 hours, $676 to $845 with a $507 minimum. Our rate runs from $119 an hour cash for two movers up to $269 for five, and $10 an hour more on each crew size when you pay by card. We publish it; most San Diego movers do not.
Distance from the coast shows up as travel time, and inland summer heat pushes starts earlier.
No. Not in Escondido, not anywhere, and not on long distance either. Nothing is charged before move day and we do not take payment online.
The truck, moving blankets, shrink wrap, dollies and straps, furniture disassembly and reassembly, floor and door protection, 25 free boxes, and released value coverage at 60 cents per pound. The $75 fuel fee is the only separate charge on a local move that fits one truck. A job big enough to need a second truck adds a $150 second truck fee and a second $75 fuel charge.
Because our estimator will not hold it on two. A 2 bedroom is 850 cubic feet and two movers run 120 cubic feet an hour, which works out to about 7.1 hours, and any two mover job at 7 hours or more escalates to three. Three movers run 220 cubic feet an hour, so the same 850 is about 3.9 hours, $659.10 at $169 an hour cash plus the flat $75 fuel fee, against a three hour minimum of $507. A 1 bedroom at 450 cubic feet stays on two movers: about 3.75 hours, $446.25 plus the $75 fuel fee.
Yes. The estimator sizes a 4 bedroom at 2000 cubic feet and a truck holds 1800, so it rounds up to two trucks. That adds the $150 second truck fee plus a second $75 fuel charge, $300 in fees rather than $75. Four movers at 275 cubic feet an hour is about 7.3 hours with clear driveways at both ends, $1,598.70 at $219 an hour cash, or $1,898.70 with the truck fee and both fuel charges. A 3 bedroom at 1400 cubic feet stays on one truck.
Not the rate. Hidden Meadows and Jesmond Dene carry Escondido addresses in 92026 and are unincorporated San Diego County, and the hourly rates and the flat $75 fuel fee are the same there. Access is what moves the number. We confirm at the estimate whether the drive is private, whether there is a gate and a code, and whether a 26 foot truck can turn around. If it has to stage short of the door, that end takes the long carry at 0.15 off, and the hours rise with it.
