Route Notes

NYC RULES — AND THEN THERE’S THE REST OF THE STATE

New York City (~2,790 miles) is the most paperwork-intensive delivery in America, and we treat it that way: nearly every apartment building requires a certificate of insurance naming the building, freight-elevator reservations book out days ahead, move-ins are often weekday-hours-only, and street space for a truck is arranged, not found. All of it is normal — when it’s handled before the truck leaves California, which is exactly what we do. Brooklyn brownstones trade elevator rules for stoop-and-stair work; alternate-side parking governs the block either way.

Upstate is a different state in everything but name: Albany (~2,830), Rochester (~2,660), and Buffalo (~2,600) deliver like friendly Midwestern cities, with Buffalo’s legendary lake-effect snow as the one seasonal caveat. Transit runs 5–8 days on the I-80 corridor into the George Washington Bridge or across I-90 for upstate. Tech, finance, and media keep the NYC-bound traffic constant; universities and healthcare anchor upstate.

The Part Nobody Tells You

WE'RE THE CARRIER, NOT A BROKER

Most companies quoting long-distance moves online are brokers — middlemen who take a deposit, then sell your move to the cheapest carrier they can find. That's how prices double at pickup and belongings get held hostage. When Discount Movers quotes your move, the company quoting you is the company that loads, drives, and delivers.

⚠ Booking through a broker

  • Your move is auctioned to an unknown carrier
  • "Estimate" often jumps at pickup
  • Nobody accountable when things go wrong
  • ✓ Booking Discount Movers

  • Our trucks, our background-checked crews
  • Flat rate locked in writing before we load
  • One company accountable, door to door

    Before You Book

    NEW YORK MOVE QUESTIONS

What does my NYC building need before you can deliver?

Almost always a COI naming the building, a freight-elevator reservation, and a move-in window — and sometimes a deposit. Send the management contact and we complete all of it in advance; it’s the core of every NYC delivery we run.

Is a Brooklyn brownstone easier than a Manhattan tower?

Different, not easier — no elevator paperwork, but stoops, tight stairwells, and alternate-side parking. Both are routine when planned.

Is upstate a totally different move?

Effectively yes — Buffalo, Rochester, and Albany deliver like easy mid-size cities. Buffalo’s lake-effect earns a winter buffer; that’s the only caveat.

How long does San Diego to NYC take?

Typically 5–8 days at ~2,790 miles — plus the building’s elevator schedule, which is why we book that the moment you book us.
