Long private drives, verified first
Private drives here run long, narrow and sometimes unpaved, with grades, gates and tree canopy of their own. Whether a 26 foot truck can reach the house is a genuine question with a different answer on every property. We verify the approach before the day, and where the drive will not take the big truck we stage a smaller vehicle for the last stretch and plan the transfer.
Acreage means outbuildings
Barns, workshops, tack rooms and storage containers are part of the inventory on Bonsall properties more often than not, and they are the part most often left out of the description of the job. Walk the whole property when you build your list, not just the house. Out here, the house is frequently the smaller half of what actually goes on the truck.
The 76 carries everything
Highway 76 is the corridor for the whole valley, two lanes in stretches, and it concentrates the area's traffic with no grid to escape into. How A Truck Actually Reaches Bonsall
From the Miramar Place yard a crew runs north to I-15, then I-15 north to SR-76 and west into Bonsall. The alternate approach is I-5 north and SR-76 east out of Oceanside. Those are not the only two ways in. Bonsall is also reachable on Mission Road from Fallbrook and on Gopher Canyon Road from the south, and which of the four a crew uses depends on where the truck starts that morning and which end of the community the address sits on.
We plan by freeway route, not by distance. Distance is not something we can measure honestly for you over the phone, and it is not what the day costs anyway. What costs time is the number of turns a loaded 26 foot truck makes after it leaves the highway.
So give us the ZIP, 92003, and the road name when you book. Those two together tell dispatch which of the four approaches to hand the crew, and that gets decided the night before rather than at the SR-76 exit.
The Old Bonsall Bridge Is Not A Crossing For A Truck
The historic concrete arch bridge over the San Luis Rey River is closed to vehicles. It carries foot and bicycle traffic only. It is a landmark and a walking route, and it is not a way to get a loaded truck from one bank to the other.
This is worth saying plainly, because it is easy to look at a map, see a bridge over the river near your address, and assume the crew has a short hop across it. Any route that treats the old arch bridge as a river crossing will not work, and the crew finds that out at the barrier with the load already on. If a set of directions you are holding sends a vehicle over it, the directions are wrong.

There Is No Permit Parking District In Bonsall
People moving up from the city ask about this nearly every time, because inside San Diego proper a residential permit district can decide where a truck is allowed to sit. Bonsall is unincorporated County. City of San Diego permit parking programs do not reach it, and there is no residential permit parking district here to pull a permit from or post a sign for.
That makes the parking question in Bonsall a different question. It is whether the private drive and the pad at the top of it will hold the truck, which is a property question rather than a municipal one. No permit fixes a pad that is too tight, and none is needed for one that is not.
If your move runs the other direction, out of Bonsall and into a City of San Diego neighborhood, the permit question reappears at the delivery end instead. Give us both addresses and we treat each end on its own terms.
No Depot, No Downtown, No Curb To Stage On
The California Southern Railroad ran up the Santa Margarita and through Temecula canyon rather than up the San Luis Rey valley. Bonsall never got a depot, and it never got a platted downtown.
That is still visible on the ground. Bonsall has no street grid and no main street. Homes and businesses sit along a few through roads, and there is no block of storefronts with a loading zone in front of them.
For a crew that removes an option we lean on constantly in older city neighborhoods, which is parking legally on a commercial block and walking the load in. In Bonsall the truck stages on the property or it does not stage at all.
When A Bonsall Job Takes A Second Truck
A second truck adds $150, plus a second $75 fuel charge. That is the whole arithmetic. There is no rural fee, no charge for the surface leg at the Bonsall end, and no deposit at any point.
It comes up more often here than on a condo move for a plain reason. A truck that fills up has to run back out to the yard and return, and on the SR-76 approach that round trip eats a large share of the working day at the crew rate you are already paying. A second truck standing on the property costs $150 and a fuel charge instead.
We make that call before we load rather than partway through the afternoon, so you see truck count and crew count together before anybody picks up a box.
Crew Size On An Acreage Job
The ladder is published and it does not change for Bonsall. Two movers and a truck are $119 an hour cash, three are $169, four are $219, five are $269, and each mover past five adds $50 an hour. The three hour minimums track the same ladder: $507 for three movers, $657 for four, $807 for five.
Bonsall jobs land higher on that ladder more often than a two bedroom apartment does, and usually not because there is more furniture. It is because the carry is longer. On a house set well back off Camino del Rey or Old River Road, an extra pair of hands on a long carry buys back more time than it costs, and that is the only reason we ever add one.
Bonsall Unified And A Boundary That Ignores City Lines
Bonsall Unified School District was formed in 2013 by unifying the former Bonsall Union School District with the corresponding part of Fallbrook Union High School District. The district boundary does not follow city lines. That is why district schools carry more than one city address.
Bonsall Elementary School and the Bonsall Unified district office both sit on Old River Road in Bonsall. Norman L. Sullivan Middle School serves grades six through eight on West Lilac Road. Bonsall High School serves grades nine through twelve in the same district. Bonsall West Elementary is a Bonsall Unified school with an Oceanside address, which is a good illustration that an Oceanside address does not by itself put a family outside Bonsall Unified.
A family moving within the area should confirm attendance boundaries with the district directly before assuming the school stays the same, and it is better to do that before picking a move date than after. Confirm the current district phone number with the district too. Ours is the only phone number on this page we can stand behind.
Why Longtime Residents Still Say Fallbrook
Bonsall High School opened in 2014. Before that Bonsall was a K-8 district and local teenagers attended Fallbrook Union High School, which is why longtime Bonsall residents still describe themselves as being in the Fallbrook high school pattern years after the high school opened here.
It reaches us on the phone. Somebody calls about a move, says they are out in the Fallbrook area, and the address turns out to be 92003 with an approach off SR-76. Neither answer is wrong. One is where the mail goes and the other is where the kids used to go to school. It changes nothing about the rate, and it is why dispatch asks for the ZIP and the road name rather than the community name.
Mount Fairview, Then Osgood, Then Bonsall
The settlement carried three names. It was Mount Fairview in the 1870s. It was renamed Osgood in the early 1880s after Joseph O. Osgood, an engineer with the California Southern Railroad. It became Bonsall around 1890, taking the name of James Bonsall, a local Methodist minister.
Three names inside about twenty years is worth knowing if you are sorting old deeds, survey references or family papers while you pack. Documents from the ranching era out here do not all say Bonsall on them, and the ones that say Osgood or Mount Fairview are describing the same ground. If that kind of paper turns up in a garage or a barn, set it aside instead of boxing it with the shelf it was sitting on.
Leaving 92003 For Another State
A long distance move out of Bonsall is one flat rate, agreed in writing before we load. The number is settled while the truck is still empty, and it does not move afterward.
On the road we plan 550 miles a day, counted from the day after we load. Anything inside 200 miles, which includes Los Angeles, is a same day delivery. From a 92003 address the truck is on SR-76 and then on the freeway system inside the first leg, so an interstate move out of Bonsall does not begin any differently than a local one.

An Unincorporated Address Does Not Change Who Licenses Us
