Which Community, And Why It Changes The Day

The door decides more than the furniture does. Carlsbad By The Sea, Bayshire Carlsbad and Santianna each hold several levels of care on one campus. A move there usually means a front desk, a reserved elevator or corridor, and a truck parked where staff say. La Costa Glen spreads single-story homes, garden villas and apartments across 55 acres. One campus, and a move there can load like a house or like a building. ActivCare at Bressi Ranch is a purpose-built memory care building. That usually means one room of furniture and a short, quiet carry. A small residential care home has a driveway, no dock and a hallway to measure.

Say the community's name when you call and the office starts with a short list of questions. Which building on the campus, and which floor. Whether the move-in desk holds a window and which elevator or corridor it reserves. Where a truck may stand and for how long. Whether a certificate of insurance is wanted before the date. Where the answer is unknown to us, the office calls the community and asks. Nobody learns it at the curb. The person moving sets the pace once the door is open, and the crew works to it.

The Arithmetic Nobody Does Until Move Week

Stand in the doorway of an assisted living room at GlenBrook Health Center or La Marea Senior Living. The count is plain: a bed, one chair, a dresser, a lamp, a small table and the photographs. An independent living apartment at La Costa Glen or Santianna holds more. Even so, it seldom takes a third of what a three bedroom house in the Village holds. That gap is the senior move. It is not sentiment, it is square feet. Every piece that does not fit needs a destination before the truck backs in. Making those choices with a crew standing in the hallway is a hard way to make them.

Families who have an easy day sat with the community's floor plan two weeks earlier and marked what goes. Ask for a walk-through and someone from our office comes to the house with a tape measure. That visit says plainly which sofa clears the corridor and which one stays. The written estimate comes out of the same visit. Crew size and hours are then set by what is actually going, not by a guess. The rest of the house gets two weeks to find its way to family, storage or a donation truck. Not two hours.

Where The Rest Of It Goes

Whatever will not fit through the community's door has three places to go. Naming them early turns a hard day into a booked one. Some pieces go to sons and daughters, which means their own addresses and their own delivery dates on the calendar. Some go into storage. Household goods are stored by us, from $205 a month. A gap between the house closing and the apartment opening does not need a second company. The remainder is donated or hauled away, and that call belongs to the family. Written down two weeks ahead, the three lists become a load order for the truck.

What the crew will not do is sort for you at the curb. A mover who starts judging which chair is worth keeping is making a decision the family will live with for years. It is not theirs to make. The crew carries what is on the list to the address on the list, and asks about anything else. Sometimes a Village house has to empty before the La Costa Glen apartment is ready. The storage leg holds the furniture, and the second delivery is booked to the community's window. Two dates, one company, and nobody deciding anything in a hallway.
