purpose of san diego moving estimate over the phone

Please Call Us 24 to 48 Hours Before Your Move If  Anything Is Different From What You Told Us Over the Phone When You Booked Your Move. (Example: Inventory changes, you have stairs to go up where you didn't before, location changes, you changed the building you are moving into, you have to stop somewhere, your date changes etc.)

Read more to learn why and how this saves you money.........

When you book your move over the phone you will be asked a series of questions about your inventory. This helps us use the correct size of trucks (all trucks cost the same to you), and the correct number of movers. If we don't have these two things in an accurate way, you will spend more on the cost of the move than you need to.

  • It is very important that you tell us an accurate description of what you have over the phone to save you the most amount money on the cost of your move!

For example, if over the telephone you tell us you have 30 boxes, no heavy furniture and no will get an estimated time frame quote based on that inventory. (We charge by the hour and it is what it is when we show up.)

.........Then if we show up to your home and find there is really 150 boxes, a baby grand piano and three flights of stairs, then not only will our estimated time frame not be accurate........but we will most likely have to rebook the move to include more movers and a bigger truck; something we could have initially recommended to save you money and protect your valuables in the first place.

Our estimates are EXTREMELY accurate when we are given an accurate inventory and will save YOU the most amount of money if you follow our recommendations.

understand what can not be moved

Please Know Which Items Moving Companies Can Not Move UNLESS They Are Packed in Sealed Moving Boxes:

Knowing this upfront can help save you money and time. Professional, licensed and insured moving companies can NOT move the following items as a protection to you unless they are packed in sealed moving boxes.

1. Loose lamps

-If you want lamps moved, they need to be inside of "lamp boxes." Otherwise they will need to be transported in your car.

lamps need to be inside of lamp boxes

2. Televisions, computers and electronics

-If you want our movers to transport these fragile electronics, then they need to be packed inside of sealed boxes.

However since electronic moving boxes can be very expensive, is typically best to transport these items in your car, unless they are too large.

televisions need to be inside of tv boxes

3. Live Plants

-Movers are not legally able to move live plants.

4. Dressers or cabinets that still have belongings inside of them.

Professional movers can not transport furniture that has personal belongings inside of them as a protection for your belongings.

  • Please remove all items from any furniture you want to have moved BEFORE the movers arrive. If you are emptying your dressers while the movers are there, your move will take longer and therefore cost you more money.

Packing dressers, be sure to take out all the clothes

5. Any loose items that are not inside of boxes can NOT be moved to protect your valuables

  • Everything that you want to be moved has to be inside of sealed moving boxes, unless it is furniture. Please use high quality moving boxes and moving supplies.

Wardrobe Boxes are included free of charge with every move!

Save Money By Using FREE Wardrobe Boxes from Discount Movers the Day of Your Move.

Discount Movers provides a wonderful FREE service that will help you save money on your move and make your move easier. Discount Movers supplies up to $75 of wardrobe boxes that you can use the day of your move to transport your hanging clothes.

    How this Process Works

    1. Let your moving consultant know how many wardrobe boxes you will need the day of your move.

    2. Your movers will arrive to your home with empty wardrobe boxes.

-There is a hanging bar inside of these extra tall hanging clothes boxes, so simply remove your clothes from your closets and hang them inside of the boxes, while your movers are loading your furniture into the moving truck. This is the ONLY packing you should be doing the day of your move.

    3. Then, once the moving truck arrives at your new home, simply unload these boxes into your new closets while your movers are unloading the truck.

This could easily save you $75 or more in wardrobe boxes, and 1-2 hours of moving time (at $88-$129 an hour,) all depending on how many clothes you have.

-When you schedule your move, please let our moving consultants know how many wardrobe boxes you will need.

Close and tape moving boxes before your movers arrive

Before your movers arrive, close and tape all moving boxes to save money and make your movers faster.

Most people do not know, that professional movers can not move "open boxes."

The reason why professional movers can not move "open boxes" is they can not be stacked in the truck and/or dolly in a protected way, as there is a higher risk of damage with items falling out of an open box.

Therefore, please close and tape all your boxes shut before your movers arrive.

-This step could literally save you 1-2 hours on the cost of your move if your movers don't have to wait for you to tape boxes shut. (HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS IN SAVINGS!)

    -How to Pack Moving Boxes

    -Why Buy New Moving Boxes

#8Use a thick marker when labeling moving boxes with contents
Label all your moving boxes with what is inside and what room you want them to be placed in

Label All of your Boxes on the TOP and on the Side of the Moving Box

Labeling your moving boxes will make your movers faster, you will save money on the cost of your move, and unpacking will be SO much easier by having each box being placed in the room it should go in.

When labeling, indicate two pieces of information:

    1. What Room the Moving Box should be moved into

    2. What is inside of the box-using one word.

    PLACE LABEL on the..........

Why Should You Label On The Side Of The Box?

When boxes are stacked, the only thing that movers can see is the sides of the boxes. If you label the sides of the boxes, your boxes will be places in the right rooms.

This could save you 20 hours of time or more, unpacking and moving boxes around!

If a box is FRAGILE, don't forget to mark this.

Packing tip-fill your moving boxes to the top. Use crumpled paper to fill in gaps.

Fill Your Moving Boxes to The Top & Use Crumpled Paper to Fill in All Gaps To Protect Your Valuables from Having Boxes Compress

Moving boxes are much stronger when they are filled completely.

Partially filled boxes can easily compress when other boxes are stacked on top, so it is better to completely fill your boxes before you tape them shut.

This is the #1 most important packing tip to help protect your valuables from moving damages. Movers can stack boxes more effectively when filled to the top and you will not have damages!

Note: The picture above shows a box of dishes, each wrapped in packing paper. Notice the gap at the top of the box? Crumpled newspaper should STILL be used to fill in the top of the box before it is taped for maximum protection.

FAQ- Should I Buy Full Replacement Moving Insurance (Or Not), 48 Hours Before My Move?

      Should I buy moving insurance

      1. What Is Basic Valuation Insurance?

Licensed and insured moving companies in California provide FREE basic valuation insurance with every move.

This means, if there is moving damages, you will receive only 60 cents a POUND.

Example: A 100 pound item( even if it is worth $10,000), you would receive .60 cents x 100 =$60.

      2. What Is Full Replacement Coverage Moving Insurance?

If you want to receive full replacement value for your valuables in the event of moving damages, you need to purchase full replacement moving insurance 48 hours before your scheduled move.

      3. Can I Buy Full Replacement Coverage for Only One Or Two Valuable Items Like a Flat Screen Television?

The answer is YES; depending on the company you go with! Moving provides the option to buy full replacement coverage moving insurance for televisions, single items and smaller local moves.

-At Moving, prices start from $30 a policy on up with a $250 deductable if there are any moving damages.

Baker Insurance does not offer this option and really specializes in very large, cross country moves. Baker requires that you buy coverage your entire home, and they have a minimum deductible of $1000 and a minimum policy size of $250. (The cost of our total average move is $300-$400)

      4. How Much Does Moving Insurance Cost? Call 1-888-893-8835

Discount Mover's customer's receive special rates from Moving, which specializes in local, smaller moves.

-How this works is you pay x amount for the policy, depending on how many things you want to cover. For example, a $30 policy would cover up to $2000 worth of coverage. The monthly cost goes up as you want to insure more items.

-Then if there are moving damages, you would have a $250 deductible, but would receive like or better than what you had.

Example: Lets say a $2000 TV gets damaged, for $280 you would receive a brand new T.V. of the same size and quality if it was damaged as a result of the move.

      5. What is The Best Thing I Can Do To Protect My Valuables?

      1. Hire Discount Movers. We have the lowest claims rating in the industry with experienced movers. Mistakes do happen; but we are good at what we do and it is not common for the volume of business we do.

      2. Use high quality moving boxes and fill them to the top. (Filled boxes are stronger)

      3. Move fragile electronic items that you no longer have the manufactures box for in your own car. (Moving trucks have more vibration than cars do)
